Dwayne Brown, AIA, NCARB



Dwayne Brown has a Master of Architecture degree from Montana State University and has been principal of the firm since its establishment in 1997.  He has practiced architecture since 1985 and has extensive experience in a wide variety of projects.  Dwayne enjoys leading all aspects of the project design and has embraced its dramatic transformation by advances in communication and technology.


Outside the office, Dwayne enjoys vacationing with his family and attending UNO Hockey games.



Scott Cromwell, AIA, NCARB, LEED-AP



Scott is an excellent facilitator and leader of the firm's collaborative style of design and development.  From master planning to adaptive re-use/renovation of buildings, his knowledge, ability, and business sense have made Scott a strong leader.  He is a member of the AIA, the Helena Chamber of Commerce, and USGBC's Montana Chapter.  Scott is in the Helena Lions Club and Montana Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.


Scott spends his free time with his family, taking advantage of Montana's beauty and helping out on the family ranches.



Jacob Augenstein, AIA, NCARB, LEED-AP



Jacob earned his Masters of Architecture degree from Montana State University in 2005.  After school he worked for six years, both in Colorado and in Wyoming, before joining Slate Architecture in 2012.  In 2009, Jacob earned his LEED Accredited Professional credentials, and is skilled in sustainable design and theory.  Jacob has been responsible for numerous successful projects ranging in project types.


Jacob spends his free time playing the bagpipes, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, running, and spending time with his family.



Jeremy Carlson



Jeremy earned his Masters of Architecture Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2006.  Jeremy believes every project deserves the utmost attention regardless of size and its success depends on ownership by all parties.  Jeremy encourages clients to think outside of the box while keeping to their vision, timeline, and budget.  With a passion for aesthetics, a desire for open communication and attention to detail, Jeremy takes pride in partnering with the client through the entirety of the project.


Outside of the office, Jeremy enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, and just relaxing.



Chantelle Mostad



Chantelle earned her Associates of Arts with a focus in Interior Spaces Planning and Design as well as an Advanced Certificate in Environmental Design Studies in May 2014 from Helena College University of Montana.  She joined the Slate team in August 2014 after her internship.  Chantelle has a passion for creating spaces that are unique to the client and is well organized, motivated, and proactive.


When not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, participating in archery tournaments, and when the weather calls for it - curling up with a good book.


Amanda Schnatz



Amanda earned her Masters of Architecture Degree in 2013 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  While working towards her licensure, Amanda prioritizes expanding her understanding of construction while maintaining a methodically creative approach to design.  She believes the best designs anticipate the needs of the user, and strives to meet this goal through effective communication during design and construction.


In her free time, she loves spending time with her family, discovering local eateries to support, and attempting to make her sons giggle.



Kelly Axtman



Kelly graduated with his Masters of Architecture in fall of 2015 from Montana State University – Bozeman and joined the Slate team as a full time staff member after a two year internship. Kelly believes in collaborating with clients to make their vision a reality. His design philosophy has centered around the motto, “Make it simple, but significant.” He is able to create efficient, functional spaces that cater to the user.


In his free time Kelly enjoys taking advantage of the area lakes, traveling, and golfing.



Tanner Draemel



Tanner earned his Master of Architecture Degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2006.  With over 12 years of experience in the industry, Tanner has worked in a unique set of markets, including Academic, Healthcare, Science + Technology, Community Architecture, Commercial, as well as Mixed-use Facilities.  Tanner has been responsible for a variety of vital architectural projects locally, nationally, and internationally.  His experience working on these diverse project types give him the ability to create thoughtful design solutions for a variety of clients.  Through communication and interpretation Tanner has been producing responsible designs which reflect the unique needs of each client while always striving to exceed their expectations.


Outside of the office environment, Tanner enjoys attending sporting events, working on his house, and spending time with his family.
