Design is both a collaborative and iterative process.
The best designs occur when individuals come together, challenging each other to invent new techniques and search for new expressions which create places that enhance the human experience. We use design to enrich people’s lives and help organizations succeed. Slate Architecture delivers individualized client environments by drawing on the fullest range of possibilities and current design innovations. We listen to you. We design for you. We succeed with you.
We believe in the development of place over the mere creation of a building. Our defining strength is our ability to harness creative intelligence – both ours and our clients – to develop solutions informed by an array of perspectives, experiences, technologies and cultures. We design places and spaces that put the user at the heart of employing best practices, sustainability, and a thorough understanding of our clients’ mission and operation. When smart, passionate, and creative people come together, real possibilities are unleashed.
Dwayne Brown founded Brown Architecture and Design Company in 1997 in Omaha, Nebraska. The firm thrived on the philosophy of architecture not merely being the creation of a building, but the creation of place. As the firm added partners and grew successfully, the decision was made in 2006 to re-brand from the family-based name of Brown Architecture and Design Company, to the new name of Slate Architecture. In 2007 Scott Cromwell joined Slate Architecture to open and head our second office in Helena, Montana. Scott brought in his vast experience in the region as well as his experience as The Chief Architect in the Montana National Guard allowing Slate Architecture to flourish in the northwest.
