An exciting new chapter is underway at Capital High School in Helena.
Students, staff, community members, and project partners recently gathered to celebrate the official groundbreaking for the school’s major renovation project, marking an important milestone as plans move into construction.
Investing in Capital High’s Future
The approximately $59 million project is part of Helena Public Schools’ voter-approved high school bond and represents a significant investment in the future of Capital High School.
The renovation will address aging infrastructure and deferred maintenance while transforming the school to better support students, educators, and evolving educational programs. Planned improvements include extensive structural and building-system upgrades, modernized HVAC and electrical systems, enhanced building security, renovated learning environments, and a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) facility.
Slate Architecture, in partnership with RTA Architects, is proud to be part of the architectural team helping bring this transformation to life alongside Helena Public Schools and general contractor Langlas.
Building for the Next Generation
Renovations are being carefully phased so Capital High can remain operational throughout construction. Work is currently underway in the lower level and will progress through the building, with completion anticipated in fall 2028.
For Slate, the groundbreaking represents more than the beginning of construction. It is the next step in creating an educational environment that will serve generations of Helena students and strengthen an important community institution for years to come.
