At Slate Architecture, we believe that architecture is more than a set of drawings—it’s a relationship, a responsibility, and a promise. Our work doesn’t end when a design is approved or when the last detail is drawn. In many ways, that’s when it truly begins.
As a firm committed to guiding projects from concept to completion, we view Construction Administration (CA) as a vital part of our role—one that ensures our designs are realized with the same care and integrity with which they were imagined.
Supporting the Process, Supporting Our Partners
Construction Administration is the bridge between vision and reality. It’s our way of staying engaged with the project, the people building it, and the communities who will eventually use it. Through CA, we provide ongoing support during the construction phase—reviewing submittals, responding to field conditions, and visiting job sites to help ensure quality, consistency, and clarity.
"At Slate, we cannot understate the importance of being involved during construction. Supporting our partners in the field is our way of ensuring our clients are delivered the quality and consistency with the designs of which they expect."
— Warren Curry, AIA, Architect
This phase allows us to remain a steady presence for our clients and partners. It gives us the opportunity to uphold the original design intent, answer questions as they arise, and respond to the inevitable complexities that construction brings—all while advocating for solutions that serve the best interests of the project.
"Our preference is to team up with the General Contractor, and together become advocates of successful project delivery."
— Jeremy Carlson, AIA, Principal Architect
Building with Intention
We understand that even the most carefully detailed documents can’t anticipate everything a job site
may reveal. Materials behave differently. Weather shifts plans. Adjustments are made in real time. By staying actively involved, we can navigate these changes thoughtfully—working side-by-side with contractors and engineers to find solutions that reflect the goals we established together at the start.
Construction Administration is about more than catching mistakes or enforcing rules. It’s about collaboration, trust, and ensuring that the spirit of the design carries through every decision made in the field.
A Commitment to Craft
Every building we design is part of a larger story—of a client’s vision, a neighborhood’s growth, a city’s identity. Through CA, we stay connected to that story until the final chapter is written. We walk the job site not just to observe progress, but to remain accountable, engaged, and committed to the outcomes our work promises.
"CA becomes an opportunity for us to review the craftsmanship of proposed design solutions."
— Natalie Gilbert, Interior Designer
Whether it’s a community health center, a housing development, or a local business, we know the importance of following through. For us, Construction Administration is one more way we honor that responsibility.
We don’t just design buildings—we help bring them to life, every step of the way.
Let’s build something meaningful, together.
Working with Slate Architecture on our new facility was like a breath of fresh air. Their ability to blend a personalized approach with professional expertise is increasingly rare in today's world which for us - being a non-profit - aligns with our values. We found them to be reliable, responsive, timely and accurate. Highly recommend.
Dwayne and the Slate staff have taken the time to learn the ins and outs of our work as they helped us design new spaces. Dwayne even helped us navigate the city bureaucracy when our new greenhouses were built saving us thousands of dollars and weeks of construction time. They understand nonprofits and have been great partners.
I have been continually impressed by Slate's enthusiasm for attacking complex project issues and resolving them as best is possible for the Client. I am confident teaming with them in the future will bring continued success.
